MIAMI -- Hope and help came to hundreds of people in the Liberty City area who attended a town hall meeting to learn how the federal stimulus package can improve their lives.
Local 10's Julie Summers found 500 seats at Monday's meeting were not enough.
An overflow crowd crammed into the Joseph Caleb Center in Miami for the meeting organized by Sen. Frederica Wilson.
“People are here this evening to listen and try to find out how the stimulus dollars impact them personally," Wilson said.
She said many in the crowd were out of work and have lost their homes, including G. Scott Coleman, a disabled vet and single fathe rof three.
“We're looking forward to things getting better after today," Coleman said.
Government experts spent more than two hours sharing specifics -- explaining, for example, how unemployment and food stamp benefits are extended, outlining new loans now available for small businesses and educating people about federal programs to help solve the foreclosure crisis.
The goal was to educate people about the specifics of the stimulus money so the dollars make sense and start to improve lives.
